Gynecomastia in Barranquilla, Male Breast Surgery
I remove the gland and the fat that make the male chest look bulky, through small, discreet incisions. It’s a consultation many men put off for years, and it shouldn’t be that way. I’m Dr. Boris Henríquez, plastic surgeon, with more than 26 years of experience in Barranquilla.

What Is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is the growth of breast tissue in men. It is not just fat: there is a real gland under the nipple, and that is why it does not go away with diet or exercise, no matter how much you train.
The surgery consists of removing that gland and, when needed, the fat around it, to give the chest back a masculine contour. I work through a small incision at the edge of the areola, where the scar hides in the change of skin color. In some cases, when there is excess skin, the technique is a little more extensive.
Who Is a Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?
Before operating I need to understand why it appeared, because there are causes worth studying and correcting first. These are the points I go over with you:
Who Is a Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?
You have increased male breast tissue
The volume of the chest is more prominent than usual and affects its appearance.
You feel uncomfortable with the appearance of your chest
Gynecomastia can create insecurity when wearing certain clothes or when taking your shirt off.
Exercise has not improved the condition
Despite keeping up healthy habits, the breast volume persists.
Your body weight is stable
Keeping a stable weight makes it possible to better assess the cause and the right treatment.
You are in good general health
You have no medical conditions that increase the risks of the surgical procedure.
You are looking for a more masculine, defined chest contour
You want to improve the proportion and appearance of your breasts in keeping with your anatomy.

What I Evaluate in Your Gynecomastia
Not all gynecomastia is the same, and the technique changes depending on what I find. This is what I examine at your consultation:
Central glandular tissue
Periareolar area
Peripheral fat
Inframammary fold
Excess skin and laxity
Symmetry between both sides
Your Process: 4 Stages of Your Surgery
Consultation and Study
It all starts with a calm, discreet conversation. I examine the chest, determine how much is gland and how much is fat, review your medical history and the medications you take, and order tests if the case calls for it.
Pre-Surgical Preparation
The internist evaluates you and orders the tests that apply, and the anesthesiologist reviews your case. I give you written instructions for the days beforehand and for stopping medications.
The Surgery
I remove the gland through an incision at the edge of the areola and, when it is needed, I complement it with liposuction of the fat that surrounds the area so that the contour is even and without steps.
Follow-Up Visits and Monitoring
I accompany you at scheduled check-ups to review how you’re healing and to follow how your contour evolves until the result is settled.
What to Expect from Your Gynecomastia Surgery: Day by Day
First days – Compression Garment and Rest
You go home with a compression garment or vest that helps your skin adhere to the new contour. The discomfort is moderate and is well managed with the pain medication I prescribe.
First weeks – Back to Your Routine
Most patients return to office work within a few days. I ask you to avoid lifting weight and doing chest and arm exercise until I clear you at your follow-up.
First Months — The Contour Becomes Defined
The swelling subsides gradually and the breast takes on its real shape. There may be temporary firmness under the nipple, which is a normal part of internal healing.
The Months After — Final Result
The contour is defined and the scar at the edge of the areola lightens until it becomes hard to make out. If the cause is under control, the result is permanent.
Post-Op Care Specific
to Gynecomastia
Wearing the compression garment and being patient with the swelling are what most influence the final result. These are my instructions:
Results
Before and After of Gynecomastia
Cases of my own patients who authorized the use of their images. Every case starts from a different proportion of gland, fat and skin, so these cases are a general reference and not a promise of results.
Permanent Result
The gland I remove does not grow back, as long as the cause behind it is under control.
Discreet Scar
It runs along the edge of the areola, where it blends into the change in skin color. Over time it becomes hard to distinguish.
Even Contour
By removing gland and fat in the same surgery, the chest is left flat, with no steps or dents around the nipple.
What Surgery Does Not Do
It does not correct generalized excess weight and it does not replace exercise, and on its own it does not solve an active hormonal cause. If there is something underlying, that has to be treated too.
