Blepharoplasty in Barranquilla, Eyelid Surgery
Give your eyes back a rested, natural look. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, corrects the excess skin, the bags and the drooping that create a tired appearance, without changing your expression. With Dr. Boris Henríquez and more than 26 years of experience in facial surgery in Barranquilla.
What Is Blepharoplasty?
Over the years, the skin of the eyelids loses firmness: extra skin appears on the upper eyelid, bags on the lower one, and that tired look that often does not reflect how you feel.
Blepharoplasty, also called eyelid surgery, corrects exactly that: it removes the excess skin, addresses the bags and brings freshness back to your gaze, without changing your natural expression. It can be done on the upper eyelids, on the lower ones, or on all four at once.
Who Is a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?
Not everyone with signs of tiredness around the eyes needs surgery, and not everyone is a candidate right now. Blepharoplasty is recommended when there is excess skin, bags, or a drooping eyelid that no longer improve with rest or with gentler treatments. These are the points we take into account to know if this is your moment:
How do you know if you are a good candidate?
Droopy eyelids or a tired look
You feel your eyelids are heavy or you look tired even when you’ve rested well.
Bags or excess skin that do not go away
The bags or the excess skin are still there even when you sleep well; they no longer improve on their own.
Good general health
No uncontrolled illnesses, and with clearance from the internal medicine physician so you can have surgery with peace of mind.
Realistic expectations
You want to look rested and natural, not to change your eyes or your features.
Not smoking, or being able to quit
Smoking affects healing, so quitting before and after surgery helps a great deal.
Time for your recovery
Being able to give yourself a few days of rest and attend your follow-up visits so that everything goes well.

Types of Blepharoplasty that Dr. Henríquez Performs

Upper Blepharoplasty
It treats the upper eyelid, when the excess skin falls over your lashes, gives you a tired look or takes away a bit of your lateral vision. The mark stays hidden in the natural fold of the eyelid, so it’s barely noticeable.

Lower Blepharoplasty
It treats the lower eyelid: the bags and, if there is any, the excess skin. Depending on your case, it’s done from the outside —when there’s excess skin— or from inside the eyelid, with no visible mark at all, when only the bags need to be removed.

Full Blepharoplasty (Four Eyelids)
When the signs are present both above and below, all four eyelids can be treated in a single surgery. That way you go through one recovery instead of two and the result is more even and harmonious.

Laser Blepharoplasty
In some cases a laser is used to make the incision, which can help you bleed and swell less. It isn’t ‘better’ in every case: it is one more tool, chosen only when your case justifies it.

Areas Blepharoplasty Corrects
Blepharoplasty improves different points of the area around your eyes, according to what each eyelid needs. These are the areas we most often treat:
Upper eyelid
Lower eyelid
Under-eye bags
Excess skin
Droopy eyelids
Tired-looking eyes
Patient Process: 4 Stages of Blepharoplasty
Consultation for Your Eye Area
It all starts with a calm conversation. Dr. Henríquez reviews your eyelids, the quality of your skin and the symmetry of your gaze, and listens to what you’d like to improve. Photographs are taken in the office studio and, if needed, a review with the ophthalmologist is requested before surgery. You leave this appointment with a clear plan and a written quote.
Preparation with Your Safety First
Before surgery you get your pre-op tests done and an internist checks that everything is in order. The anesthesiologist evaluates you as well. Only when everything is ready and cleared do we schedule your surgery. You receive clear instructions about which medications to stop and how to care for the area in the days beforehand.
The Day of Your Surgery
Blepharoplasty is performed in a high-complexity clinic, supported by a full team: Dr. Henríquez, your anesthesiologist and the support staff. Most of the time it is done with local anesthesia and sedation, so it is an outpatient procedure: that same day you go home with a companion, after a while under observation.
Supported Recovery
For the first few days you use cold compresses, eye drops and rest with your head elevated. The stitches are removed at the office a few days later, quickly and painlessly. Dr. Henríquez follows you closely at your check-ups, until your result settles.
Blepharoplasty Recovery: What to Expect Day by Day
First days – Cold Compresses and Peak Swelling
The first few days are the ones with the most swelling and, at times, some mild bruising. It is normal for your eyelids to feel tight and to open your eyes a little less. With cold compresses, your head elevated when you sleep, your drops and rest at home, this improves quickly. Don’t be alarmed: it is the most dramatic part and also the shortest.
First week – Improvement and Stitch Removal
The swelling goes down a good deal and the bruises start to fade. A few days later the stitches are removed in the office. From then on you can wash your face carefully and start feeling more like yourself.
The Following Weeks — Back to Your Routine
The area keeps deswelling and you can cover any marks with light makeup, once your doctor allows it. You go back to work and to your social life. For a while you avoid direct sun, strenuous exercise and rubbing your eyes.
Stable Result
As the months go by, the scars —hidden in the eyelid crease or along the lashes— become fine, very discreet lines. Your eyes look rested and natural, and that is the result we are after.
Post-Op Care Specific to Blepharoplasty
Taking good care of your eyelids after surgery has a big influence on the result. The first days are the ones that call for the most careful attention; after that it is about protecting the scar and gradually going back to your routine. We give you everything in writing, but here are the key points:
Real Results
Blepharoplasty Gallery: Before and After Cases
Here you will see real cases from patients who agreed to share their before and after. They help you get an idea, but remember that every set of eyes is unique: your result depends on your anatomy and on your process. All the images have each patient’s consent.
A Natural Look
Your eyes look more open and rested without losing your expression. The people close to you notice that you look well, without knowing exactly why.
Long-Lasting Result
It is a result that holds for many years. Time keeps taking its natural course, but your eyes keep that fresh look for quite a while. How long depends on your skin, your habits and how you care for yourself.
Discreet Scars
The incisions are hidden in the eyelid crease or right along the lashes. With good care they become fine lines, hard to notice.
What Blepharoplasty Does Not Do
It does not stop the passing of time and it does not change your features, and dark circles caused by spots or pigment sometimes need another treatment. The surgery refreshes your gaze, it does not transform it.
