What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

It is a concentrate I obtain from your own blood. I take a small sample, spin it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma fraction with the highest concentration of platelets and apply that concentrate to the area to be treated through microinjections.
Platelets carry growth factors: the same signals your body uses to repair a tissue when it is injured. By concentrating them and bringing them to your skin, I activate your own regeneration mechanisms. I am not adding an external material or filling a volume; I am stimulating something that is already in you. That is why the result is gradual and builds session after session.

Who Is a Candidate for Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Not every skin that looks tired needs the same thing. There are cases where PRP is exactly what is called for, and others where a filler, botulinum toxin, or surgery makes more sense. These are the points I go over with you to know if this is your moment:

Who Is a Candidate for Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Minimum age with complete facial development

Generally 16 to 18 years old; before that the cartilage and bone keep growing and the result can vary.

Realistic, well-defined goals

The patient understands which changes are possible given their anatomy and which are not.

Non-smoker, or willing to quit tobacco

Smoking affects healing and increases complications.

Good general health

No decompensated cardiovascular disease, clotting disorders or active infections.

Valid reasons that are your own

The decision comes from the patient, not from outside pressure from a partner, family or social circle.

Availability for the recovery period

Enough time to follow the rest period, the check-ups and the specific care instructions.

Your Process: 4 Stages of Your Session

Consultation for Your Skin

It all starts with a calm conversation. I review the quality of your skin, identify the areas to treat and listen to what you’d like to improve. I also review your health history and the medications you take, because some of them change the indication.

Blood Sample Collection

I draw a small sample of your blood right there, just like in a routine lab test. You do not need to fast or do any special preparation, unless I tell you otherwise.

Centrifugation and Plasma Collection

I process the sample to separate the platelet-rich plasma, with sterile single-use material. It takes a few minutes and happens right there in the office, with you present.

Application with Microinjections

I apply a topical anesthetic and perform the microinjections in the planes that correspond to each area. When we finish I give you the instructions for the following days and you carry on with your day.

Recovery

What to Expect After Your Platelet-Rich Plasma: Day by Day

01
01

First 24 hours Mild Redness

It is normal for your skin to look a little red or for the injection points to show, and a small bruise may appear. Don’t be alarmed: it is temporary.

02
02

First days Everything Eases and You Get Back to Your Routine

The redness goes down and the skin recovers its usual appearance. Most of my patients go on with their normal routine that same day.

03
03

The Following Weeks — Your Skin Responds

Regeneration is not immediate: the stimulus works gradually and the changes in texture and glow become noticeable little by little.

04
04

The Following Sessions — Results in Stages

PRP works cumulatively. How many sessions you need and how often to repeat them depends on your skin; we define the schedule together at your consultation.

Post-Op Care Specific
to Platelet-Rich Plasma

PRP doesn’t put you in recovery: you go on with your routine the same day. These instructions are for the first few days and they help your skin make better use of the stimulation:

  • Do not touch or rub the area. For the rest of the day, so your skin can calm down without extra stimulation.
  • Avoid makeup. For the first few hours, until the injection points close.
  • Avoid intense exercise. For the first 24 to 48 hours: sweating a lot can irritate the area.
  • Avoid direct sun, saunas, and heat. For the first few days, and use sunscreen every day.
  • Pause any irritating products. Acids, retinoids and exfoliants can wait a few days.
  • Wash your face gently. Warm water and a mild soap, without rubbing.
  • Stay well hydrated and rested. Your skin regenerates better when the rest of your body is on board.
  • Let me know if anything worries you. Increasing pain, warmth, or redness that does not go away: call me.
Real Results

Cases of my own patients who authorized the use of their images. Every skin responds differently depending on the area treated and the number of sessions, so these cases are a general reference.

What to Expect from the Result of Platelet-Rich Plasma: Gradual Regeneration

My goal with PRP is not to change your face: it is for your skin to look healthier. PRP does not fill a deep fold, does not relax an expression line and does not lift sagging. What it does is improve the quality of the tissue from within. If your case calls for something more, I will tell you frankly. Plastic surgery is a specialty of means, not of results, and I would rather you know from the start what you can expect.

What people notice is not the treatment: it is that your skin looks firmer, more even and brighter.

Gradual Result

You will not see the change as you walk out of the office. Regeneration is built over time and shows better as you move through your treatment plan.

It Is Your Own Biological Material

We work with your own blood. There is no implant, no external substance and no risk of rejection.

It Requires More Than One Session

PRP works through repeated stimulation. A schedule of several sessions and later maintenance are part of the treatment, not an extra.

What PRP Does Not Do

It does not correct marked sagging, excess skin or significant volume loss. In those cases we talk about the option that does fit you.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Platelet-Rich Plasma

That is a very fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on your case. The price changes according to the areas we treat and the number of sessions you need. Under the guidelines of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery, prices are not published online. At your consultation you receive a clear, written estimate.

It is uncomfortable, not painful. I apply a topical anesthetic before the microinjections and most of my patients tolerate the session very well.

It varies depending on what we are treating and how your skin responds. PRP always works in stages, so we plan a schedule of several sessions and then maintenance. We define the number at your consultation, not before.

No, they do different things. PRP improves the quality of your skin; hyaluronic acid fillers restore volume and define contours; botulinum toxin relaxes expression lines. They can be combined in the same plan, and at your consultation I explain which order makes sense for you.

Not to the material, because it is your own blood. What can appear is local and temporary: redness, mild swelling or some bruising. You are not a candidate if you have clotting disorders, low platelets, blood diseases or an active infection in the area; that is why I review your medical history before scheduling.
