Breast Lift in Barranquilla, Mastopexy

I return the breast to its position by repositioning the tissue and the areola, without adding volume. It is the surgery for when the breast is not small, it has simply dropped. I am Dr. Boris Henríquez, plastic surgeon, with more than 26 years of experience in breast surgery in Barranquilla.

What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is the surgery that corrects breast drooping. With pregnancies, breastfeeding, weight changes or simply the passing of time, the skin loses elasticity and the tissue drops: the breast looks empty in the upper pole and the areola ends up pointing downward.
What I do is remove the excess skin, reposition the tissue higher and place the areola where it belongs. I do not add volume: I reorganize the volume you already have. If you also want more size, it can be combined with implants in the same surgery.

Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Before operating I need to understand exactly what bothers you, because sagging and lack of volume are different problems with different solutions. These are the points I go over with you:

Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

You have drooping or laxity in your breasts

Your breasts have lost firmness or sit lower than you’d like.

Your nipples have changed position

The nipple-areola complex sits lower and may benefit from a lift.

You have had changes from pregnancy or breastfeeding

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can change the shape and firmness of the bust.

You maintain a stable weight

A stable body weight favors longer-lasting, more predictable results.

You are in good general health

You have no medical conditions that could interfere with the surgery or your recovery.

You want to improve the shape of your breasts

You want to regain a firmer, lifted appearance that is in harmony with your figure.

Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Minimum age with complete facial development

Generally 16 to 18 years old; before that the cartilage and bone keep growing and the result can vary.

Realistic, well-defined goals

The patient understands which changes are possible given their anatomy and which are not.

Non-smoker, or willing to quit tobacco

Smoking affects healing and increases complications.

Good general health

No decompensated cardiovascular disease, clotting disorders or active infections.

Valid reasons that are your own

The decision comes from the patient, not from outside pressure from a partner, family or social circle.

Your Process: 4 Stages of Your Surgery

Consultation and Surgical Plan

It all starts with a calm conversation. I measure the degree of sagging, assess the quality of your skin and the amount of tissue, and explain what scar pattern your case needs. Here we define whether it goes on its own or with implants.

Pre-Surgical Preparation

The internist evaluates you and orders the tests that apply, including breast studies appropriate for your age. I give you written instructions for the days beforehand and for stopping medications.

The Surgery

I remove the excess skin, rearrange the tissue to give projection back to the upper part of the breast, and reposition the areola in its correct place, always taking care of its blood supply and its sensation.

Follow-Up Visits and Monitoring

I accompany you at scheduled check-ups to review how you’re healing, do the dressings and follow the maturing of the scars for as many months as needed.

Recovery

What to Expect from Your Breast Lift: Day by Day

01
01

First days Surgical Bra and Rest

You go home with a special bra that holds the breast in its new position. It is normal to feel tightness and discomfort rather than strong pain, and it is well managed with the pain medication I prescribe.

02
02

First weeks Gradually Back to Your Routine

The swelling subsides and most patients return to light activities within a short time. I ask you to avoid raising your arms above your shoulders and lifting weight.

03
03

First Months — The Breast Settles

The tissue settles and the final shape gradually appears. At first the breast looks higher and firmer than it will end up: that is expected.

04
04

The Months After — The Scars Mature

They go from pink to light slowly and gradually, over several months. It is the part that asks for the most patience and the one where I stay closest to you.

Post-Op Care Specific
to Breast Lift

In breast surgery, the final shape and the quality of the scars depend a great deal on these first months. These are my instructions:

  • Always wear your surgical bra. Day and night, for as long as I tell you. It supports the result while you heal.
  • Don’t raise your arms or lift weight. During the first few weeks, until I clear you at your follow-up.
  • Sleep on your back. Never on your side or on your stomach while the tissue settles.
  • Protect the scars from the sun. Strict protection for months, or they will stay permanently dark.
  • Use what I prescribe for your scar. Silicone creams or sheets, depending on how you are progressing.
  • Walk from day one. Short, frequent walks to prevent blood clots.
  • No smoking. It is the factor that most damages healing in the breast.
  • Let me know if anything worries you. Increasing pain, fever, drainage, or one breast looking very different from the other: call me.

Cases of my own patients who authorized the use of their images. Every breast starts from a different degree of descent and a different skin quality, so these cases are a general reference and not a promise of results.

What to Expect from the Result of Your Breast Lift: Shape, Not Size

A good breast lift result is a breast that looks like it’s in its place, with the areola well positioned and a natural shape. Not bigger: better placed. The scar is the price of this surgery and I want you to know that from the start. My job is to make it as small as possible for your case and to accompany you while it matures. If you’re not willing to accept a scar, this surgery isn’t for you.

What people notice isn’t the surgery: it’s that your clothes fit you the way they used to.

The Breast in Its Position

You regain projection in the upper part and the areola points forward again. The silhouette changes even when you are dressed.

Planned Scar

I use the least extensive pattern that resolves your degree of sagging, and I show it to you before surgery so you know exactly what to expect.

Preserved Sensation

The technique protects the blood supply and the nerves of the areola. There may be temporary changes in sensitivity that recover gradually.

What a Breast Lift Does Not Do

It does not increase the size of the breast and it does not stop aging. Gravity, future pregnancies and weight changes keep acting over time.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Lift Surgery

That is a very fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on your case. The price changes according to the degree of sagging, the technique it requires and whether it is combined with implants. Under the guidelines of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery, prices are not published online. At your consultation you receive a clear, written estimate.

Augmentation adds volume with an implant; a breast lift raises and rearranges the tissue you already have. If your breast is small but in its place, you need augmentation. If it is a good size but has dropped, you need a lift. And if both things are happening, they are combined. We define that at your consultation.

Yes, and it’s a frequent combination when, along with the sagging, there’s also volume loss, especially after breastfeeding. It’s a more demanding surgery because you have to lift and augment at the same time, and in some cases I prefer to do it in two stages. I tell you frankly what’s best in your case.

It depends on the degree of sagging: it may be only around the areola in mild cases, or extend downward and into the fold in advanced cases. At first they are pink and over the months they lighten. How each skin heals varies, and that is why I insist so much on sun protection and on follow-up visits.

It lasts for years, but it doesn’t stop time. Gravity, a later pregnancy or significant weight changes can make the breast descend again. That’s why, if you’re thinking about having children, we talk about whether it’s better to wait.
