Brow Lift in Barranquilla

I reposition the brow that has dropped over the years to open up your gaze and take away that tired expression that does not reflect how you feel. It is a subtle change, in the upper third of the face. I am Dr. Boris Henríquez, plastic surgeon, with more than 26 years of experience in facial surgery in Barranquilla.

What Is a Brow Lift?

Over the years, the brow loses its position: it drops, especially at the tail, and your gaze starts to look tired or sad. That descent pulls skin down onto the upper eyelid, which then looks heavier than it really is. Often it is not the eyelid that is in excess, but the brow that has dropped.

The brow lift, or eyebrow lift, repositions the brow at its natural height through incisions hidden in the scalp or right at its edge. By raising the tail of the brow, your gaze opens up and the upper third of the face looks rested, without changing your expression or your identity.

Who Is a Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Not every tired look needs this surgery: sometimes the answer is botulinum toxin, and sometimes the real problem is in the eyelid. These are the points I go over with you to know if this is your moment:

Who Is a Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Minimum age with complete facial development

Generally 16 to 18 years old; before that the cartilage and bone keep growing and the result can vary.

Realistic, well-defined goals

The patient understands which changes are possible given their anatomy and which are not.

Non-smoker, or willing to quit tobacco

Smoking affects healing and increases complications.

Good general health

No decompensated cardiovascular disease, clotting disorders or active infections.

Valid reasons that are your own

The decision comes from the patient, not from outside pressure from a partner, family or social circle.

Availability for the recovery period

Enough time to follow the rest period, the check-ups and the specific care instructions.

Your Process: 4 Stages of Your Surgery

Consultation for Your Face

It all starts with a calm conversation. I assess the position of your eyebrows, the height of your forehead, the quality of your skin and how much of your heavy eyelid comes from the brow. Here we decide whether this is your surgery or whether you need something else.

Design and Marking

I mark precisely how much to lift and where to place the incisions, based on your hairline. This calculation is the one that decides a natural result: too much and the expression looks forced; too little and the change doesn’t show.

The Surgery

Through discreet incisions, I reposition the brow at its natural height and secure the tissues in their new position. Depending on the case, I work on the tail of the brow or the entire forehead, always taking care of your expression.

Follow-Up Visits and Monitoring

I see you to remove the stitches and then at scheduled check-ups to accompany the maturing of the scar and confirm that the lift came out even on both sides.

What to Expect from Your Brow Lift: Day by Day

01
01

First days Swelling and Stitches

Your forehead and the area around your eyes look swollen and bruising may appear. That is normal and it is unsettling at first, so I warn you about it from the consultation: this is not the result.

02
02

First week Stitch Removal

I remove the stitches in the office and the swelling clearly begins to go down. Your gaze still looks somewhat elevated, more than it will end up being.

03
03

First Weeks — Back to Your Routine

Most patients get back to their normal life within a few days, once the bruising can be covered up. Your expression settles and stops feeling tight.

04
04

The Months After — Final Result

The brow settles into its natural position, the scalp scar hides among your hair and the real result appears: a rested look. It is a change that stays stable over time.

Post-Op Care Specific to Brow Lift

The key to this surgery is caring for the scar and being patient with the swelling in the area. These are my instructions:

  • Sleep with your head elevated. For the first few nights, so the swelling in your forehead goes down faster.
  • Cold on the area the first few days. In short intervals, to control swelling and bruising.
  • Do not frown or raise your eyebrows on purpose. Avoid big, forced expressions while it heals.
  • Protect the scar from the sun. Sunscreen every day for months, so it does not darken.
  • Be careful when you wash your hair. With lukewarm water and without rubbing the area, following what you are told at your follow-up visit.
  • Avoid intense exercise. During the first few days, until I clear you at your follow-up.
  • No smoking. It is what damages a facial scar the most.
  • Let me know if anything worries you. Increasing pain, redness that does not go away, or one eyebrow looking very different from the other: call me.

What to Expect from the Result of Your Brow Lift: A Rested Look, Not a Surprised One

A good brow lift result shows in your gaze, not in the surgery. The people close to you sense that you look rested, without knowing exactly why. That’s what I’m after. The mistake I want to avoid is the overly high brow, that permanently surprised expression that gives the surgery away. That’s why I work with restraint and prefer a subtle change over an exaggerated one.

What people notice isn’t the surgery: it’s that your gaze looks fresher.

An Open Gaze

By repositioning the tail of the brow, the upper third of the face looks rested and the eyelid no longer looks heavy.

Stable Result

It is a structural change that holds over time. Your face keeps aging normally, but the position I correct lasts.

Hidden Scar

Depending on the technique, the incision is placed in the scalp or at the edge of the eyebrow, where over time it becomes hard to distinguish.

What a Brow Lift Does Not Do

It does not correct the bags or the excess skin of the lower eyelid, nor does it replace a full facelift when the sagging involves the whole face. It works on the upper third.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Brow Lift Surgery

That is a very fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on your case, on the technique, on the type of anesthesia and on whether it is combined with another procedure. Under the guidelines of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery, prices are not published online. At your consultation you receive a clear, written estimate.

No. Botulinum toxin can slightly lift the tail of the brow by relaxing certain muscles, and it is a temporary effect that has to be repeated every few months. Surgery repositions the brow in a stable way and achieves a greater change. When the drooping is mild I usually start with the toxin; when it is already real, surgery is what is called for. At your consultation I tell you which one works for you.

It depends on what is actually dropping. If the eyelid looks heavy because the brow has fallen and pulled skin down with it, the solution is to lift the brow. If there really is excess skin on the eyelid, then it is blepharoplasty. Often it is best to combine the two, because they work on neighboring areas of the same third of the face. That is exactly what I determine at the consultation.

It stays hidden: depending on the technique, in the scalp —where your hair covers it— or along the upper edge of the eyebrow. For the first months it looks like a pink line and then it lightens until it becomes hard to distinguish. How each skin heals varies, and we talk about that before surgery.

Yes, and it often makes sense. It combines very well with blepharoplasty, with a lip lift or with a facelift, because together they give a more harmonious result for the whole face. At your consultation we define what’s best to do and in what order, according to what you need.
