What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is the surgery that increases the volume of the breasts and improves their shape. It can be done with silicone implants, with your own fat (fat grafting) or by combining both techniques.

It is different from a lift: augmentation adds volume, while a lift raises breasts that have dropped. If you want both things at once, they can be combined in a single surgery. Everything is planned around your anatomy and what you want to achieve.

Who Is a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Not everyone who wants to change their bust needs surgery, and not everyone is a candidate right now. Breast augmentation is recommended when the volume or the shape of your bust no longer represents you and you are in good health for surgery. These are the points we take into account to know if this is your moment:

How do you know if you are a good candidate?

Little volume, or volume lost after pregnancy

You feel your bust is small for your body, or it lost volume after a pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss.

Asymmetry between the two

There is a noticeable difference in size or shape between one side and the other that you would like to balance out.

Good general health

No uncontrolled illnesses, and with clearance from the internal medicine physician so you can have surgery with peace of mind.

Full development (from age 18)

The bust has finished developing; before that age the result can change.

Realistic expectations

You want breasts that are in harmony with your body, not an extreme change. You know what is possible given your anatomy.

Time for your recovery

Being able to give yourself the days of rest, wear the special bra, and attend your follow-up visits.

Types of Breast Augmentation that Dr. Henríquez Performs

Combined Technique (Implant + Fat)

It combines the implant with a little of your own fat around it, to soften the edges and achieve a more natural cleavage. It is ideal when you have little skin coverage and want a very harmonious result.

Patient Process: 4 Stages of Breast Augmentation

Consultation with Measurements and Volume Trial

It all starts with a calm conversation. Dr. Henríquez examines your bust, takes measurements and, with a sizer, helps you visualize the volume on your body. Photographs are taken in the office studio and we talk about whether an implant, your own fat or the combined technique is right for you. You leave with a clear plan and a written quote.

Preparation with Your Safety First

Before surgery you get your pre-op tests done (including a breast check appropriate for your age) and an internist confirms that everything is in order. The anesthesiologist evaluates you as well. Only when everything is ready and cleared do we schedule your surgery. You receive clear instructions for the days beforehand.

The Day of Your Surgery

The surgery is performed in a high-complexity clinic, with general anesthesia and a full team: Dr. Henríquez, your anesthesiologist, the surgical nurse and the support staff. Afterward you spend some time under observation —sometimes one night— so we can take care of you from the very first moment.

Supported Recovery

You go home with a special bra that supports you through your recovery. The first check-ups are a few days later, to review and change the dressings. The office offers lymphatic drainage when indicated, and Dr. Henríquez follows you closely until your result settles.

Recovery

Breast Augmentation Recovery:
What to Expect Day by Day

01
01

First days Compression Bra and Rest

You wear the special bra at all times and you feel pressure and tightness in your chest; that is normal. You move your arms carefully, without raising them above your shoulders. The discomfort is well controlled with what the doctor prescribes. You rest in a semi-seated position. Sometimes you spend the first night under observation.

02
02

First week Gradual Improvement

The pain and the tightness keep easing and you are already walking normally around the house. You keep wearing the surgical bra at all times and you have your first check-up a few days in. You are not back at work or to an intense social life yet.

03
03

The Following Weeks — Back to Work

The scars begin to mature and silicone massage starts (along with lymphatic drainage if your doctor indicates it). You gradually return to your social life and to office work. You keep wearing the bra and still do not exercise or lift weight.

04
04

The Months After — The Bust Settles

The implant gradually settles and the bust, which at first looks higher and firmer, drops into its natural position. The tightness eases considerably and little by little you go back to light exercise. Over time, the result stabilizes and the scars lighten.

Post-Op Care Specific to Breast Augmentation

Taking good care of yourself after surgery has a big influence on the result. The first days and weeks are the ones that call for the most careful attention; after that it is about protecting the scars and gradually going back to your routine. We give you everything in writing, but here are the key points:

  • Wear the special bra at all times. Day and night during the first few weeks. It helps bring the swelling down and lets the implant settle into place.
  • Sleep on your back, semi-seated. With the head of the bed raised during the first few weeks. It reduces swelling and avoids pressure on your chest.
  • Do not lift anything heavy. No heavy bags, children, or pets at first. Keep your arm movements gentle.
  • Pause exercise. No gym and no sports for a few weeks. You go back to it little by little and with the doctor’s approval.
  • Care for your scars with silicone. Use the gel or the sheets the doctor recommends, when the time comes, for several months.
  • Protect the scars from the sun. With sunscreen, so they don’t darken. It is one of the aftercare steps that most influences how they end up looking.
  • Take advantage of lymphatic drainage. At the office, when the doctor indicates it. It helps reduce swelling and helps you feel better.
  • No cigarettes. Not before and not during recovery: it directly affects healing.

Mammoplasty Gallery: Before and After Cases

Here you will see real cases from patients who agreed to share their before and after. They help you get an idea, but remember that every body is unique: your result depends on your anatomy and on your process. All the images have each patient’s consent, and out of respect and by regulation, intimate areas are blurred.

Expected Results of Breast Augmentation: A Natural, Harmonious Bust

A good breast augmentation result isn’t a catalog bust: it’s a more harmonious version of your own body, with the volume and the shape your anatomy allows. The idea is for you to look natural and proportionate, not operated on.

We’re after a bust that looks and feels like yours, only more harmonious.

Naturalness and Harmony

The goal is a bust that is proportionate to your body. You decide the style — more discreet or more noticeable — always within what your anatomy allows.

Implants Are Not Forever

Implants last a long time, but they are not permanent: over the years, some patients decide or need to replace them. We talk about that honestly from the start.

Discreet Scars

They are placed in inconspicuous areas (under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit) and fade with time and proper care. With your own fat, only tiny dots remain.

The Result Settles Over Time

Even though you notice the change from the start, the final result arrives when the implant settles and the breasts drop into their natural position, over the following months.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Augmentation

That is a very fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on your case. The price changes according to the technique (implants, your own fat or a combination), the type of implant, the medical team and the clinic. Also, under the guidelines of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery, prices are not published online. At your consultation you receive a clear, written estimate, made to fit you.

Neither one is ‘better’ in general: it depends on what you are looking for. Implants allow a larger augmentation in a single surgery and a very predictable result. Your own fat (fat grafting) gives a more moderate augmentation, very natural to the touch, and improves the area it is taken from. At the consultation we look at which one suits your body and your goals better.

No. Implants last many years, but they are not permanent: over time some patients decide to change them or the doctor recommends it. How long they last depends on the brand, on your body, and on natural changes (pregnancies, weight, age). It is something we talk about clearly before operating.

A well-performed breast augmentation shouldn’t affect your ability to breastfeed, although it can’t be guaranteed one hundred percent. If you’re planning a pregnancy soon, it’s worth talking about, because sometimes it’s better to wait. We go over all of this at your consultation.

Yes. If, along with volume, you’re looking to raise a bust that has dropped, the augmentation can be combined with a lift in a single surgery. It leaves a somewhat more visible scar, but it saves you from going through two operations. If it’s right for your case, we define it together.
