Facial surgery has recovery times specific to each procedure. This section brings together the post-op care
common to all the facial procedures performed in the office.

  • Sun protection: Use SPF 50+ sunscreen once the surgeon clears you, and avoid sun exposure.
  • Scar care: Apply silicone as directed and come to your follow-up visits so we can monitor them.
  • Swelling control: Use cold compresses, sleep with your head elevated, and avoid physical exertion.
  • Wearing makeup: Resume between 7 and 14 days, only with the surgeon’s approval.
  • Skin care: Cleanse your face with gentle products and avoid irritating treatments.
  • Lymphatic drainage: Have it done if it is indicated, to reduce post-op swelling.
  • Warning signs: Report severe pain, fever, bleeding or any abnormal changes right away.

Frequently Asked Questions about Facial Surgery in Barranquilla

There is no standard age. The indication depends on the type of procedure and on the clinical signs: rhinoplasty is usually performed from age 17-18, once facial growth is complete. Facelift and blepharoplasty are considered when signs of tissue descent or excess skin appear, which can happen between the ages of 40 and 60 depending on the patient. Buccal fat removal and lip lift are procedures assessed from age 18 with individual anatomical judgment.

A facelift is a surgery that repositions descended structures (skin, subcutaneous tissue and the SMAS layer) and resolves the real descent of the tissues. Non-surgical rejuvenation (hyaluronic acid fillers, botulinum toxin, thread lifts, PRP) acts on expression lines, volume loss and skin quality, without changing the structural position of the face. The practical rule: when the tissues descend anatomically, surgery is the option that offers a lasting result; when the aging is functional or volumetric, non-surgical treatments are usually enough.

The result of a well-performed facelift can last between 7 and 12 years on average, depending on individual factors: age at the time of surgery, skin quality, habits (smoking, sun exposure), significant weight loss or gain and genetic predisposition to aging. The patient continues to age after the facelift, but the face maintains a more youthful anatomical position than it would have without surgery.

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty uses ultrasound (piezoelectric) technology to reshape the bone structures of the nose with greater precision and less trauma to the soft tissue. It is not ‘better’ in absolute terms: it is a more up-to-date technique that offers benefits in specific cases (recovery with less swelling, fine control of the bone reshaping). The indication is decided case by case. There are rhinoplasties where the traditional technique is still appropriate.

Yes, several facial procedures can be combined in a single surgical session when the case allows it and the patient is in adequate clinical condition. Frequent combinations: facelift + blepharoplasty + neck lift (comprehensive facial rejuvenation); rhinoplasty + buccal fat removal; upper blepharoplasty + brow lift. The decision depends on the total surgical time, the individual anesthetic risk and the feasibility of a combined recovery.

A minimum of two weeks in Barranquilla for the in-person consultation, preoperative tests, surgery and initial recovery. Patients on transoceanic flights need additional time because of the risk of thrombosis.
